Our Story

Artefact Eyewear was born from a deep passion for wood and a desire to showcase its beauty in a meaninful, functional way.

Our Story Begins

Back in 2013, we had the wonderful opportunity to build our own house — and during that journey, David discovered a deep passion for woodworking. That passion never stopped growing, and we began looking for a way to turn it into something sustainable. We imagined creating a product that could be made right here in our small home workshop. It had to be something compact & easy to ship, and meaningful enough to grow into a business that could eventually support other families too.

Reinventing Wooden Eyewear

This adventure truly began to take shape in December 2018, when we purchased equipment from a former wooden eyewear maker. At that moment we finally knew what we were going to create. However, we quickly realized the tools and methods we acquired weren’t right for our vision. As a result, we had to reinvent the entire manufacturing process.

Overcoming Challenges

From that point on, our mission was clear: highlight the natural beauty of wood without compromising on what makes a great pair of glasses — thoughtful design, long-lasting comfort, durability, strength, and lightness.

We faced many challenges along the way and it was far from easy. For example, adding that little “bump” on the bridge (the middle portion that’s over the nose) was quite a task. In addition, we needed to ensure our frames could handle daily wear and tear. One by one, we solved them. Little by little we got closer to our goal. Today, we are happy to offer handcrafted eyewear that is, fashionable, high quality, and truly unique.

A growing Team

In July 2024, we welcomed our very first team member, Junghoon. His arrival marked an exciting new chapter for Artefact Eyewear. Having someone join our small workshop not only helped us increase production but also brought fresh energy. David and Junghoon have a shared passion for craftsmanship.

Most importantly, this meaningful step brings us towards the vision we’ve had from the start — creating something sustainable, local, and built together.

Take a look — we hope you’ll find something you’ll love.

Our Story

Artefact Eyewear was born from a passion for woodworking and a desire to showcase the natural beauty of wood.

It all started in 2013, when David discovered his passion for working  with wood while building our home. Years later, that passion turned into a mission: to design and craft eyewear that showcases the beauty of wood — right from our small workshop.

In 2018, we acquired equipment from a former wooden eyewear maker and began reinventing the process from scratch. Our goal was to create frames that are not only beautiful, but also light, strong, comfortable, and made to last.
